Edinburgh drivers warned of 'treacherous' conditions on icy roads after waking up to frost

Drivers in Edinburgh are being warned to take care this morning, with what was described by one motorist as "treacherous" conditions in places.

Edin Travel News - a council-run traffic and travel Twitter feed - has been sharing warnings from concerned motorists this morning.

One driver reported "treacherous" road conditions in the Clermiston area.

Helen Buchanan wrote: "Clermiston Rd between Clerwood Park and Drum Brae Drive: water run off from hill has frozen. Treacherous road conditions.

Meanwhile, another commuter sought to warn drivers of "slippy" roads in the west of the city, near The Gyle Shopping Centre.

LJ said: "Any chance of a wee warning for folk around Gyle Centre area to be careful as some of the roads look to not have been gritted and it’s slippy - as my bus found out!"

Tuesday saw a yellow weather warning in place for ice across Edinburgh and the Lothians, with the Met Office warning that there was an "increased chance of injury" due to icy patches.

While residents woke up to roads and pavements covered in frost this morning, the weather is set to brighten up later on, this afternoon.

At least it's an improvement on Storm Ciara and Storm Dennis, which saw the Queensferry Crossing close for over a day and disastrous flooding hit towns and villages in the Scottish Borders.
