Edinburgh drivers warned as Pentland Hills car parks packed with stuck cars

Edinburgh drivers have been urged not to bring their cars when visiting the Pentland Hills as people flocked to the beauty spot.

After serious snowfall blanketing the capital this week, locals headed for the Pentlands amid lockdown.

Car parks were reportedly "very busy" as a result and people are being asked to use alternative forms of transport after vehicles struggled with the conditions.

A statement on the council-run Twitter Edinburgh Outdoors read: "All the car parks in the Pentland Hills Regional Park are very busy today & vehicles are getting into difficulties.

"Please consider using alternative forms of transport if you're planning a visit & remember to keep access roads clear for farm and emergency vehicles."

It comes after the Pentland Hills were closed off to the public as an amber weather warning swept over the city.

The Pentland Hills park issued an urgent warning to avoid the area, with drivers told not to enter the park until further notice.

Due to the weather, snow affected the majority of roads, car parks and paths surrounding the hills, with access extremely limited earlier this week.
