Edinburgh drivers warned as Forth Road Bridge expected to set restrictions tomorrow

Drivers in Edinburgh and the Lothians are being urged to use caution after Scotland was hit with torrential rain overnight.

And tomorrow (Sunday) high winds are expected to affect major bridges including the Forth Bridge.

Widespread warnings over surface water were issued late on Friday night by Traffic Scotland.

They cover all routes in Edinburgh, Glasgow, South Lanarkshire, North Lanarkshire and Fife for today (Saturday).

There are no weather alerts in place for Scotland at the moment.

But heavy rain and the expected winds will make driving conditions more challenging.

Similar advice is now in place for much of the Central Belt, covering major trunk routes such as the M8, M74, M73 and M9.

Tomorrow's forecast means restrictions are expected on bridges including the Forth Bridge which are expected to be closed to high-sided vehicles from the afternoon onwards.

Speed restrictions are also expected to be in place.

The Queensferry Crossing is not expected to have any restrictions in place.
