Transport Scotland have issued a warning on Twitter to drivers in Edinburgh and urged people to plan ahead and expect delays.

They said: “Snowy conditions affecting much of the central belt, as you can see from the images, it is settling on the carriageways so do plan ahead, expect delays and drive to the road conditions.”

They continued: “Usual queues on the #M8 E/B towards Hermiston Gait, traffic is particularly slow around junction 2 Ratho, but not causing too long delays.

“Surface water on the carriageway as the snow has been cleared.”

Bear Scotland manage and repair the roads in Edinburgh and across Scotland and they assured drivers they will be out all day today.

They said: “A yellow warning for snow and lightning in currently in place until 8pm tonight.

We have gritters out working round the clock - please drive to conditions if travelling. Check the movement of our gritters via trafficscotland’s gritter tracker.”

Scotrail are reporting no disruption to their services as of 8am this morning.
