Edinburgh drivers get stuck in sand at South Queensferry just as tide comes in

Two drivers got stuck in the sand on Friday after taking their Jeeps onto the beach at South Queensferry.

The brightly coloured 4X4s were spotted stuck and struggling to make it back onto dry land just as the tide began to turn.

The pair had apparently tried to test their off road skills before becoming stuck under the Forth Bridge.

South Queensferry News shared the images on Facebook, saying: "2 Jeeps thought it was a good idea to play in sand under rail bridge. Currently stuck."

The yellow and green vehicles were seen on Friday afternoon, but locals said they made it off the beach just in time as tide began to come in.

It comes as the frustrated RNLI lifeboat station warned people to stay safe near the shore, revealing they had been called out to rescues every day this week.

In a plea to people on Facebook, RNLI Queensferry Lifeboat revealed they had been called out four times within the space of just four days to assist stranded walkers.

Taking to social media, they said: "This photo from today was of the boat leaving the station to go to Cramond Island for the 4th time in 4 days.

"Every day since Monday this week we have been called out to rescue those stranded on the island when the causeway was cutoff by the incoming tide. And to be honest? We wouldn't change that.

"We'd much rather come to the aid of those who need us than have anyone endanger themselves trying to cross the flooding or covered causeway, or by waiting on the island for hours until the tide falls, potentially ill-equipped for the elements. It's what we do."
