Edinburgh 64-year-old rushed to hospital after serious crash on Lanark Road

An Edinburgh driver was rushed to hospital on Friday afternoon following a road crash in Juniper Green.

Both police and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene on Lanark Road, which had involved two vehicles.

Emergency crews were first alerted to the RTC at around 2.44pm, with a section of Lanark Road quickly closed off to to traffic.

Public transport and drivers were forced to take a lengthy diversion from the crash, with Lothian Buses quickly alerting their passengers to add extra travel time to their journey on routes 44 and 45.

However, it has been reported that the road has since reopened to traffic.

The SFRS confirmed in a statement that two engines had been deployed to the scene on Friday afternoon.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 2.44pm on Friday, June 25 to reports of a road traffic collision involving two vehicles on Lanark Road, Juniper Green, Edinburgh.

“Operations Control mobilised two appliances and one casualty was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were called to a report of a one vehicle crash on Lanark Road in Edinburgh around 2.50pm on Friday 25 June.

"Emergency services attended and a 64-year-old woman was taken to hospital by ambulance. The road was re-opened shortly before 5pm.”
