Edinburgh driver captures violent attack on city centre street

A concerned Edinburgh driver has captured footage of two males landing punches on another man in a city centre lane.

The incident is understood to have occurred on the afternoon of Saturday 23 April 2022 on Queensferry Street Lane.

Officers from Police Scotland say they received a call at around 5:35pm from a concerned member of the public.

In the video, a man wearing jeans and a t-shirt can be seen cowering into the corner of a driveway. He is dealt a blow by a man almost double his size, who was wearing a body warmer and grey cotton tracksuit bottoms, as his head is heard ricocheting off the driveway entrance.

After delivering several blows to the victim's head, another smaller man, dressed in black Adidas joggers and a black hoodie, comes in and sucker punches the victim again, causing his head to crash against the entrance once more.

Three women are also seen in the video, with two of them attempting to stop the altercation, however a woman in colourful red trousers and a blue jacket, says that the victim had it coming.

She could be heard shouting: “You were due it, you were f**king due it!”

During the footage one woman can be heard saying: “Are you happy now you have all smashed each other's faces in now?”

It is not known what caused the altercation amongst the group but the footage was captured by a concerned Edinburgh driver who happened to be travelling along the city centre lane.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Officers were called at around 5:35 pm on April 23 to reports of a disturbance on Queensferry Street Lane Edinburgh.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
