Edinburgh rig has tight squeeze under Forth Bridge as its dropped off by super-ship

A huge off-shore drill platform had a tight squeeze under all three of the Forth Bridges today as it made its way along to the Port of Rosyth.

The machinery has been on quite the mission over the weekend, and has been spotted by hundreds as it travelled along the Forth Estuary on the way to be decommissioned.

However, the huge piece of engineering floated in style, and was popped aboard the largest ship in the world to take it along the Scottish coast.

The Allseas’ Pioneering Spirit had hauled the drilling platform as well as a huge cargo barge through the water, and at more than 1,250ft long and 400ft wide, had made a few waves.

However, on Sunday the 'Iron Lady' had dropped off the drilling platform, which was then taken onto a series of tugboats that could direct it smoothly under the bridges.

And thankfully all seemed to go well, with many locals snapping a picture of the drill tightly making its way under the Forth Rail and Road Bridge, as well as the Queensferry Crossing.

With what appeared to be just a few metres left to spare, the huge vessel was safely lead down the Firth of Forth, where it arrived at the Port of Rosyth.

Now at the port, the drill will be moored for approximately six weeks, after which it is scheduled depart for the Energy Park Fife in Methil where its cargo will be unloaded prior to its decommissioning.
