Edinburgh dog walker finds ransacked safe while out with his Jack Russell, sparking police probe

An Edinburgh dog walker found a ransacked safe near the City Bypass, leading to police launching a search for clues.

Kevin O'Rourke found the safe while out walking near the A720 with his Jack Russell Ziggey.

However after alerting police to the safe officers were initially unable to find it, the Daily Record reports.

Kevin, 42, believes the safe has been stolen and it appeares to have been broken open with a grinding tool.

He spotted it on Friday, but Police Scotland could not locate it at the weekend. Police called him on Saturday to say there was no sign of it.

It was later seen down the side of an embankment in Wester Hailes.

He told the Record: "It looked like a grinding disc had been used to cut open the lock. There’s marks on it from that.”

Police Scotland said: “We were made aware of this safe on Friday. Officers visited the area but were unfortunately unable to find it.

“Officers will be returning to the area to recover it.”
