Edinburgh dad fumes after being charged £45 to pick his son up from the airport

An Edinburgh man was left furious after being charged £45 when picking his son up from the airport.

Dylan Fletcher, 49, had driven into the collection point at Edinburgh Airport on Friday (December 4) to collect his son, who was disembarking from a flight that had originated in Tenerife.

As the flight was scheduled for 5.30pm, Dylan arrived at 6.20pm, however delays in baggage. collection meant he was waiting in the car park for two hours before his son arrived at the car.

Due to the delays, Dylan was charged £45 at the terminal, a charge that he has called "ridiculous" and "totally unfair".

After only expecting to be in the collection point for a matter of minutes, Dylan has asked for a refund from the airport.

Speaking about the charges, he said: "The time to collect baggage in an airport should be shortened during these social distancing times, not lengthened.

"I understand that the airport is financially struggling at these times and perhaps baggage handlers have been furloughed.

"However the time taken for the collection of bags in Tenerife was 30 minutes. Notwithstanding the two hour wait on baggage, the charging of £45 for no fault of my own is ridiculous."

Edinburgh Airport say the pick-up area would only have cost £18 for a stay of between one and three hours, and the £45 charge is for the drop-off area.

A spokesman for Edinburgh Airport said:

“Charges for both the pick-up and drop-off area are clearly marked online and in the areas themselves.

“The gentleman would have saved himself £27 if he had parked in the correct area.”
