Edinburgh cyclist in 'critical condition' after Silverknowes Road collision

An Edinburgh cyclist is fighting for her life in hospital after a 'collision' on Silverknowes Road this morning.

Emergency services raced to the scene of the incident before taking the woman to the Royal Infirmary, where her condition has been described as 'critical'.

Silverknowes Road recently underwent work to install a cycle lane to make travel safer for cyclists.

An eyewitness on the scene tweeted : "Crash on Silverknowes Road involving a bike. This section of the road was closed and bollarded off to make it safer for cyclists and walkers but it doesn't feel that safe going downhill on a bike."

The nature of how the collison took place has not been confirmed by emergency services - but no other vehicles are believed to have been involved at this stage.

Police are currently trying to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police are making enquiries following a collision involving a female cyclist in Silverknowes Road, Edinburgh, which occurred around 10.23am on Thursday, 29 April.

“Emergency services attended and the woman was taken by ambulance to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, where medical staff describe her condition as critical.

“No other vehicles are believed to have been involved at this stage and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland through 101, quoting incident number 1233 of Thursday, 29 April.”
