Plans for Edinburgh Currys PC World to be transformed into huge 24 hour gym

An area of Edinburgh could welcome a brand new 24 hour gym if plans lodged with the council are approved.

Hunter UK Retail LP are hoping to change part of Corstorphine's former Currys PC World into the 'always open' fitness facility, writing that it would 'contribute to the health, fitness and wellbeing of the local community.'

The application for planning permission for the "proposed change of use at first floor level from retail (Class 1) to 24 hour gym (Class 11) has now been submitted to the council and is open to public comment.

Plans for the site also include a Lidl on mezzanine area of the huge building, with plans for the supermarket given the go-ahead by the council.

A whole host of work is to be carried out on the huge retail unit, including a reconfigured entrance, new shopfront windows and glazing, increased doors, a new canopy and an access lift.

According to a statement from Montague Evans - who act on behalf of Hunter UK who own the whole building - the first floor they are hoping to use as the 24 hour gym is currently vacant and was most recently used as storage for Currys PC World.

The application states the gym will be accessible and operated entirely separate from the retail use at ground floor.

Currently, it has not been confirmed when the new approved Lidl at Corstorphine is due to open.
