Edinburgh crowds stop to watch moving tribute to Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts

Edinburgh crowds stopped to pay their respects after a spontaneous musical tribute to Charlie Watts took place in the city.

Tourists and residents alike gathered in the city centre as two musicians paid homage to the late Rolling Stones drummer, who died yesterday at the age of 80.

Duo, a two-man band formed during lockdown in March 2020, posted a video to their Twitter with the caption: "RIP to the legendary Charlie Watts. We played this in tribute tonight in Edinburgh."

Gaining over 100 likes, and a large crowd outside The Scotch Whisky Experience, Edinburgh residents appeared to appreciate the sincere gesture to the legend Charlie Watts.

Fellow Twitter user also posted their own video on the site, with the caption, "@duoguitarmusic1 at @edfringe today. #Edinburghfringe."

Legendary musician Charlie Watts passed away 'peacefully in a London hospital surrounded by his family' on Tuesday.

Other famous faces paid tribute to the drummer of Rolling Stones, including best selling author Irvine Welsh.

He wrote, "RIP Charlie Watts.

"Always steadfastly came over as a no-nonsense honest broker in a situation where the acclaim, wealth, pomposity and egotism could corrupt the sweetest of souls."

The sad news follows Charlie's absence from the band's No Filter tour, which he pulled out of a few weeks ago.
