Edinburgh crowds pay moving tribute to popular local Dawson McTaggart following death

A "moving tribute" has been held for popular Edinburgh man Dawson McTaggart following his death earlier this year.

Family and friends got together at The Shore in Leith, near the Malmaison, on Sunday afternoon to share memories of the "loveable rogue" who was a hugely popular figure throughout the area.

Edinburgh Northern and Leith MSP Ben Macpherson was among those in attendance and he tweeted an image from the gathering. He posted on Sunday: "A moving memorial service for Dawson today – many in #Leith miss you pal. RIP."

It was reported earlier this month how family wanted as many people as possible to get together at Dawson's favourite bench to remember the man they knew as "the best pest". They planned for a piper to play Sunshine on Leith as his ashes were scattered.

The 59-year-old passed away suddenly from natural causes in June, with tributes flooding in.

The Daily Record previously told how he was a regular at a number of bars in Leith where he was nicknamed "harmless headache".
