Police confirm woman and young child rushed to hospital after Edinburgh shop crash

A woman and young child have been hospitalised after a horror car crash in Edinburgh.

They had been standing outside a charity shop on Morningside Road when a car ploughed into them at around 2.30pm.

It is believed the casualties are a mother and her child.

The city centre area has now been blocked off as police launch an investigation into the smash.

We reported earlier how locals claimed the car 'had ploughed through' a shop window in the accident.

One witness said: "I was just there. Poor lad was stuck under the car. I hope he is ok.

"I got out of the car to help. It was quite serious.

"The mother of the child was also injured."

There is no information yest as to the condition of the crash victims.

A police spokesperson said: "Around 2.30pm on Tuesday, 30 June, 2020, police received a report of a road traffic crash involving a car and two pedestrians outside St Columba's Hospice charity shop in Morningside Road, Edinburgh.

“A woman and young child have been taken to hospital by ambulance.

"Traffic diversions are in place.

“Police enquiries are ongoing."
