Edinburgh crash at ‘notorious speed trap’ despite councillor warning

An Edinburgh councillor has taken aim at city transport chiefs for failing to respond to a request for a review over a “notorious” speed trap following a collision.

Scott Arthur warned drivers were “ignoring” vehicle activated signage on Redford Road and continuing to exceed the limit after yet another crash on the problem street.

The ward eight councillor previously wrote to the local authority to ask for further measures to be taken to avoid further accidents.

However, Cllr Arthur was dismayed to receive no response from city chiefs and has since set up a survey of local residents in a bid to push through further action.

It comes after police responded to a collision between two vehicles at the junction of the road and nearby Redford Drive on Sunday morning.

A black BMW was removed from the scene on the back of a low loader following a crash with an Audi shortly after 11am.

Police Scotland confirmed officers did attend the incident, but added no one was injured and a presence from the Scottish Ambulance Service was not required.

But Cllr Arthur said the crash further highlighted the need for traffic slowing measures on the road as he implored the local authority to act.

He said: “There was another serious crash at the Redford Drive/Road junction today - the third, at least, since I was elected.

“I am trying to figure out why I didn't even get a response to my last request for a review.

“I hope all those involved in the incident today are OK.”

A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed no further action was taken over the collision and both drivers walked away from the scene unscathed.
