Edinburgh covidiots cause chaos at Corstorphine Hill with beauty spot trashed

Edinburgh covidiots have been causing mayhem on the city's Corstorphine Hill, with huge amounts of rubbish scattered all across the landmark.

Residents say they are growing frustrated at the actions of around 15 to 20 youths who are meeting on the hill, at the end closest to the Leonardo Hotel, and having lockdown-breaking parties.

Local woman Carrie Walker says she's found all sorts of things while out clearing up the mess, and wants action taken to stop crowds gathering in the area.

She said: "It's becoming a weekly occurrence on Friday and Saturday nights. A lot of them seem to be meeting up behind the Leonardo Hotel and spending hours there.

"They've taken the table and chairs which had been left out by the hotel and carried them up the hill.

"It's been happening since the first lockdown. Large groups of 15 to 20 people meeting up there.

"It's really concerning as we've found all sorts of things – broken bottles, litter and even used condoms."

Pictures shared by Carrie show the remains of a bonfire, while a table and chairs have been set up nearby.

She's been helping to clear the area of litter but says there are some areas that are tough to reach.

She added: "It's difficult as the place they've been gathering isn't on a path, or track. So it's a bit more difficult to get it.

"We've been up with our litter pickers to clean up but there are some parts we can't even get to as they've thrown some of their empty cans into the gorse.

"I think people are growing frustrated at it. Especially those who walk their dogs. There have been quite a few comments on the Corstorphine Facebook page, so hopefully we can deter them."

In recent weeks Edinburgh Live has reported how rule-breaking gatherings have been taking place at various locations throughout the capital, including at the Meadows and in the city centre.
