Edinburgh council approve plan to bulldoze hot food takeaway and build apartments

Edinburgh council have given permission for the bulldozing of a hot food takeaway to build new apartments.

The City of Edinburgh Council approved the plan on Monday November 1 from Best Future Solutions Ltd.

They intend to develop the site at 10 Burdiehouse Terrace and erect a two and a half storey apartment block.

The site of 10 Burdiehouse Terrace is within a post second world war suburban housing development (South House) from the late 40s and early 50s.

The takeaway is first noted on the drainage record from 1951, as a Chemist shop.

The site is within the Liberton and Gilmerton Ward and the City of Edinburgh Local Plan boundary and is designated as an area suitable for housing, which is the predominant use at the location.

There will be four flats in the block, with two studios and another couple of two bedroom properties. At first floor, there are two duplex two bed apartments. The second floor is an attic level for each of the studio apartments.

Granting permission for the development a spokesperson for the City of Edinburgh Council’s planning department stated the proposal was “compatible with the surrounding area.”

They said: “The principle of the development in this location is acceptable. The approach to scale, form, design and density is compatible with the surrounding area.

"The development will provide an adequate level of amenity for future occupiers and will not result in an unreasonable impact upon neighbouring amenity, or the quality of the local environment.

“The proposal, as revised, encourages reduced reliance on car parking and promotes increased usage of sustainable modes of transport through cycle provision. The design of parking is acceptable in this location.”
