Edinburgh Council announces pavements to be widened in Gorgie, Portobello and Corstorphine

A new selection of Edinburgh streets will have their pavements widened over the coming days to allow more room for social distancing, the council has announced.

Corstorphine, Gorgie and Portobello will all see changes this week as the new temporary measures are put in place.

Over the last few weeks, the City of Edinburgh Council have made a series of pavements wider in the city centre, as well as closing off some roads to vehicles such as Waverley Bridge and Cockburn Street.

From Wednesday, St Johns Road in Corstorphine will see new cycling lanes on either side of the street, alongside removing "unnescecary street clutter" to allow for locals to keep their distance whilst out and about.

Templeland Road and St Ninian's Road will also see the same features put in place.

On Thursday (July 23), similar actions will take place in Gorgie and Dalry, with pavements to be widened under the railway bridge on Robertson Avenue.

Other streets such as Ardmillan Terrace, Wheatfield Street and outside Gorgie Farm will also have the same measures put in place.

Finally, on Friday (July 24), Portobello High Street will see Fishwives' Causeway and Beach Lane expanded, however parking will still be available outside the Town Hall to enable easy access to local businesses.

The council have also stated that they plan to extend these measures to other areas of the city such as Tollcross, Morningside and Easter Road in the coming weeks.
