Edinburgh coronavirus cases soar by thousands according to new study

Positive cases of coronavirus in Edinburgh have soared by thousands in the last month, according to data from King College London.

The COVID Symptom Study app, run by science company ZOE with analysis provided by King’s College London, collects public health data to produce virus algorithms and contribute to coronavirus research.

According to analysis published today, there are an estimated 6304 active cases of Covid currently in the capital, which is an increase of 1,631 from last week.

The graph published on today (Thursday) shows a steep increase in the number of cases in the city over the last seven days.

The cases have soared by thousands (ZOE)

The news comes as new data released by an FOI has revealed that four areas in Edinburgh have a rate of over 600 cases per every 100,000 people, which is a way higher case rate than most areas in the capital.

The hardest hit area in Edinburgh has been revealed as Niddrie, which has a rate of 652 cases per 100,000 people, making it Edinburgh's top coronavirus hotspot.

The other worst-hit areas in Edinburgh have been revealed as Ratho, Ingilston and Gogar which has a rate of 620 cases per 100,000 people, Leith which has a rate of 612 cases per 100,000 people and Liberton West who have 603 cases per 100,000 people.
