Edinburgh Comedy Awards: Jordan Brookes and Catherine Cohen take top prizes at Fringe

Jordan Brookes has won best comedy show at this year's Edinburgh Comedy Awards for his show "I've Got Nothing".

The Merseyside-born comedian took the top prize and £10,000 while New Yorker Catherine Cohen was awarded £5,000 and the best newcomer prize.

There were 759 shows judged by this year's panel.

Accepting his award, presented by Stephen Fry, he said: “Just went with a white dude in the end. Absolutely natural choice.”

He continued: “I really don’t think I’m deserving of this at all.

"It was such a nice honour to be part of such a diverse range of people in terms of background, style, it felt like a really nice list of people to be part of and I feel genuinely honoured.”

His show combines stand-up, physical comedy and crowd work.

Nica Burns, director of the awards, said: “With a very close list of nominees and a nail biting debate the judging panel chose Jordan Brookes as the 2019 winner for his originality, his playfulness with the audience, his timing and his sheer laughter count.

“Utterly unique, dubbed by some critics as the comic coup of the Fringe, there is literally no one like him.”

In her cabaret show "The Twist…? She’s Gorgeous", Ms Cohen performed songs, poems and comic riffs.
