Edinburgh club launch memorial matches in memory of 'amazing' player Conan Murie

An Edinburgh football club have announced they will be running a local tournament in memory of one of their players.

Edinburgh South FC will be hosting the competition as a tribute to 18-year-old Conan Murie, who was tragically found dead earlier this year.

Described as a 'gifted' and 'amazing' young player, Conan was found near Arthur's Seat on January 4 by walkers in the area.

The news had shocked both Conan's loved ones and the local community, with one friend describing him as a "class act" in a heartfelt message.

Now, Edinburgh South have announced they plan to hold a 7-a-side tournament for anyone who wishes to join in memory of their lost player.

Expected to go ahead on July 3 if restrictions permit, the event have welcomed "all friends, family, coaches, ex teammates and the Edinburgh South community" to come along and create teams of up to 10 people.

With players allowed to be any age over 16, the games are hoped to bring the community together to celebrate Conan's life.

Speaking about him in a post, the club said:

"Conan made a massive impact at Edinburgh South not only as an extremely talented football player but as an amazing person.

"We would like to use this as a way of remembering Conan for years to come.

"If anyone is interested in entering a team please contact us via Facebook, Twitter or Instagram."
