Edinburgh Climate Camp: What were the costs?

A total of 18 people have been arrested during the Climate Camp protest activity in Edinburgh since it began on Thursday.

The arrests were made at various locations across the city, from the RBS head office in Gogarburn to more central locations including bank branches.

The force said a significant amount of planning had been put in place to ensure officers were prepared "for every eventuality."

Last night in a statement, police said: "We had considerable resourced in place to respond in a proportionate and responsible manner."

Readers contacted us asking for more detail on the policing operation. So today we have submitted a Freedom of Information request to Lothian and Borders Police with the aim of establishing the costs incurred.

We will publish their response so readers will be able to make an informed opinion about how the local police force dealt with facilitating the protest and alleged crimes. See our full FOI request here.
