A cheeky charity shop is trying to punt a Trainspotting VHS for £30 marking it “very rare”
The VCR of the cult classic set in Edinburgh during the 80s can be bought on Ebay for just £1 but that didn’t stop the charity shop punting the video for the eye-watering £30 price tag.
The classic picture features many locations around the capital including Princes Street, the Banana Flats in Leith and Calton Road.
The image shows the plastic VHS with the iconic orange film cover featuring members of the cast including Robert Carlyle, Kelly MacDonald and Johnny Lee Miller.
A small price tag is taped on with ‘very rare £30’ scrawled on in biro with the price underlined twice.
Speaking to Edinburgh Live Dave Fill who spotted the video in Wales said:
“I’m a massive fan of the film. It was one of those things as well as Brit pop that defined the 90s literally everyone had seen it!
“That’s why I was so shocked to see it described as ‘rare’ but we all had that VHS, and the soundtrack albums, it was part of our youth.”
Hundreds of social media users were bewildered by the expensive movie.
One user joked: “Is it rare because it actually comes with a bag of heroin?”
Another said: “The only reason why it's rare is because nobody has bothered to keep their VHS video recorders.”
One user added: “£30? Do you think I was born slippy?”
While another said: ““£30! That’s 3 bags of smack! The DVD is £1.89 on eBay or free if you steal it from my local flea market.”
This year marks 25 years since Irvine Welsh's novel Trainspotting hit our screens in the form of a movie that would become a cult classic Scottish film.
Trainspotting follows the turbulent lives of a group of Edinburgh friends who navigate their way through life while plagued by heroin addictions.
