Edinburgh City v Albion Rovers new year clash postponed

Albion Rovers will have to wait a little while longer to kick-off 2022 after Sunday's League Two clash with Edinbrugh City was postponed.

Positive Covid cases in the City squad means the game at Ainslie Park will no longer go ahead as planned on January 2 and will be rescheduled.

A statement from the SPFL read: "Sunday’s cinch League 2 match between Edinburgh City and Albion Rovers has been postponed.

"Edinburgh City requested that the SPFL postpone the game as, due to positive Covid cases, they do not have sufficient players available to fulfil the fixture."

An SPFL spokesman said: “After reviewing the information provided by Edinburgh City, their cinch League 2 match against Albion Rovers at Ainslie Park on Sunday January 2 has been postponed.

"A new date for the fixture will be announced in due course.”

Rovers last faced City in November and ran out 4-0 winners at Ainslie Park.

Their next match is scheduled for January 8 when they are due to host Stenhousemuir.
