Edinburgh City Council close all play parks amid coronavirus fears

Edinburgh City Council has made the decision to close down all play parks across the city in response to the spread of coronavirus.

It comes after cases of potentially deadly COVID-19 increased to 70 in the NHS Lothian area, bringing the Scottish total to 584.

Edinburgh City Council confirmed that: "All play parks, mixed use games area courts, outdoor exercise equipment, skate parks and car parks" will be closed with immediate effect.

Edinburgh Council also added that allotments will stay open in the city, however visits will fall under the national guidance of one outdoor trip per day.

Edinburgh City Council leader Adam Mcvey said: "This is, of course, an extraordinary situation and we are adapting to a constantly-changing landscape.

"There is no doubt that our services will face increasing pressure and I’d like to take this opportunity to call on the people of Edinburgh to help us to look after the city during these unprecedented times, by following our advice, taking responsibility for any litter if outside of the house and looking out for neighbours where possible."
