Edinburgh city centre to get new luxury hotel with restaurant and ten townhouses

Luxury hotel chain The Hoxton have announced that their first Scottish venue will open in Edinburgh as part of a huge expansion in the UK and Europe.

The swish hotel brand, that have establishments in London, Europe and America have expressed their desire to expand in the UK in the shape of a 211-room hotel in one of the city's busiest spots in the city centre.

Due to open in the summer of 2023, Haymarket has been chosen as the area to host the new hotel with a restaurant, large event spaces and a gallery.

The hotel will also include ten stitched-together townhouses with beautiful Georgian features and three signature 'Hox-Homes' in the shape of three-bedroom self contained apartments that offer guests long-term accommodation.

The Hoxton opened their first hotel in London's Shoreditch in 2006 and in 2022, opened a venue in Barcelona complete with a roof-top swimming pool and apartments with kitchen facilities for long stays.

The chain also pride themselves on the slick design of their lobbies, saying that a 'lively lobby' is the centrepiece of every hotel. For The Hoxton's Haymarket location, Ennismore, the brand behind the hotel, have used "block colours, subtle textures and locally sourced materials" to give the building a glamorous look.

The Hoxton said its upcoming expansion reflects the “strong bounceback” it has seen since the pandemic, with many of its operating properties hitting pre-pandemic levels and making “record-breaking” restaurant revenue.

It is currently unknown which building in the Haymarket area will be re-developed into the luxury hotel, although it is guaranteed to appeal to guests due to the close proximity of some of the city's biggest attractions.
