Pupils' climate change march in Edinburgh: Here are all the city centre road closures

Thousands of pupils will be marching through the capital today (May 24) demanding climate action.

Schoolchildren who go on strike from school and skip lessons to take part in the protest will be marked down as an "authorised absence".

The march is expected to attract up to 4,000 young protesters, accompanied by a piper and a samba band, and will head off from The Meadows shortly before midday.

Rolling road closures

Officials have warned that the demonstration could bring Old Town traffic to a standstill - despite no roads being "officially closed" due to insufficient time to put traffic orders in place.

However there will be rolling road closures along the pupils' march route, starting off from The Meadows at 11:30am, onto Forrest Road and then George IV Bridge, before turning down the High Street, Canongate and arriving at the Scottish Parliament.

Traffic is expected to be disrupted for up to two hours on George IV Bridge and the Royal Mile.

Bus routes will also be impacted by the action, from 11:30am services 2, 6, 23, 27, 35, 41, 42, 45, 47 and 300 will be diverted.
