Edinburgh city centre Christmas tree goes up as locals prepare for festivities

An Edinburgh local has spotted a Christmas Tree getting put up in the city centre as the capital prepares for the festive season.

Ali Abualsad noticed the festive centrepiece installed in the heart of the Grassmarket late last night.

The images show the Christmas tree arriving on a large lorry and being put up in the chilly November night.

Another picture shows Ali’s adorable one-year old pup Mocha transfixed by the festive tree getting put up.

The truck appears to have a number of Christmas trees on the back suggesting that others were getting placed around the city.

The large tree gets installed every year in the middle of the Grassmarket and is one of a number of trees in areas around the city.

Following the Dome Christmas lights being put up a couple of weeks ago this is one of the first signs of Christmas in the capital.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live the 33-year-old said: “They started working on it around 9:30 pm.

“Never too early for Christmas in my opinion!

“We definitely need that good cheering up feeling after another tough year.

“Mocha was laser focused.

“That’s her usual spot so any random activities she’ll be on the lookout.”

Edinburgh Council today confirmed the installation of the Christmas trees has begun this week across the city and the various community lights switch ons will begin the week of 21 November.
