Edinburgh City Cabs launch NHS heroes taxi fund to provide free travel during the coronavirus crisis

City Cabs Edinburgh have launched an NHS heroes fund to allow their drivers to transport key workers for free during the COVID-19 outbreak.

While some transport is still running across the capital, Lothian Buses, Scotrail and Edinburgh Trams are all running reduced services.

City Cabs are aiming to raise a whopping £10,000 to help NHS staff get to and from their live-saving shifts.

For every donation made, the generous cab operator will double it.

City Cabs Edinburgh will also be offering all NHS staff a 40 percent discount while the fund builds momentum.

City Cabs plan to use 100 percent of the funds to provide free transport for the NHS, but anything left over will be donated to Royal Hospital for Sick Children and Maggie’s Centre Edinburgh.

City Cabs say: "As the number of COVID-19 cases surge drastically over the coming days and weeks, the pressure will be felt by our amazing NHS staff who are putting themselves on the front line to save lives and keep us safe.

"Our heroes will be working long shifts and tiring hours as the pandemic unfolds across the country.

"Public bus timetables have been significantly decreased with some services being completely removed from operation.

For our NHS staff who do not drive, this will only make getting to hospital more difficult and time consuming and ultimately reduce the amount of time they have for rest between exhausting shifts.

City Cabs Edinburgh they will provide regular updates about how the fund is being spent.
