Edinburgh City Bypass three car collision causing tailbacks as police rush to scene

A section of the Edinburgh City Bypass has been shut down following reports of a three-car crash near the Capital.

Officers closed part of the A720 between Baberton and Calder shortly before 2pm after being alerted to a collision on the eastbound road between a number of vehicles.

The road remains closed with traffic subjected to delays on the M8 and connecting roads while the damage is cleared.

Police said there were no reports of any serious injuries, but remain at the scene as enquiries are carried out.

Traffic Scotland warned motorists to plan ahead for their journey between Hermiston Gait and Baberton and Dreghorn Station and the scene of the collision at the Calder Junction.

Live traffic camera images show long lines of vehicles backed up down the road.

It is unclear how long congestion will last for but those travelling eastbound have been urged to adjust their plans accordingly.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "At 1.40pm police were called to the A720 between Calder and Baberton following reports of a three-vehicle road crash.

"The road is currently blocked.

"There are no reports of serious injuries."
