Edinburgh City Bypass road closures in place from Sunday as five week project starts

Overnight road closures will be in place on the Edinburgh City Bypass from tonight (Sunday) as a five-week programme of works gets underway.

BEAR Scotland say the Gogar to Hermiston eastbound on-slip will be off limits tonight from 9pm to 6.30am with diversions in place from Gogar Roundabout, South Gyle, A71 Calder and the Calder junction.

Further closures are then scheduled throughout July and part of August.

The Calder to Gogar Link Road westbound will be shut on Monday night while the Gogar to Calder link road eastbound, Hermiston to Dreghorn stretch and Dreghorn to Lothianburn on-slip eastbound will also close in the coming days.

The project, which will be carried out in 16 different phases, will see different parts of the bypass close overnight from 9pm to 6.30am. Teams will be on hand to carry out various maintenance tasks such as tidying up carriageways and roadsides, litter picking, gully emptying, catchpit cleaning, weed spraying, road sweeping, pothole patching and repairs to signs and fences.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “It’s essential for safety that we close the carriageway while these works are carried out, however we’ll be taking advantage of the closures to carry out as many routine maintenance tasks as possible at once.

“We’ve also split the works into phases so that only the minimum length of carriageway has to be closed on any given night.

“If you are planning to use the bypass at night over the next few weeks, our advice is to check what restrictions will be in place and allow extra time for your journey if necessary.

“We thank road users and the local community for their patience and understanding.”
