Edinburgh City Bypass incident: Man rushed to hospital after falling from bridge at Calder junction

A man has been rushed to hospital after falling from a motorway bridge on Edinburgh's City Bypass.

Traffic Scotland reported at around 2.50pm that the A720 had been completely shut to traffic between Baberton and Hermiston Gait, with both east and westbound carriageways off limits. They said on social media that "traffic is very heavy on all routes in the vicinity".

Emergency services were dealing with an incident at the Calder junction, and a Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers attended the A720 at 2.40pm following reports of a man falling from a bridge.

"The man has been taken to hospital and enquiries are ongoing."

Police have since left the scene, and traffic is moving again.

In a seperate incident, the M8 closed to traffic after a two vehicle crash near Hermiston Gait earlier this afternoon. The eastbound route was shut off to traffic close to the City Bypass off-slip, with delays of around 45-minutes reported on the road.

The road was reopened at around 2.30pm but some delays remained in the area.
