Edinburgh city bypass A720 accident: Police race to four vehicle smash 'involving lorry'

The Edinburgh City Bypass westbound is currently gridlocked with traffic after a lorry shed its load at a bridge near Lasswade this morning.

Police say they are dealing with a four vehicle road traffic accident on approach to the scene.

Traffic Scotland reported that Lane 1 (of 2) is currently closed west bound at Lasswade, causing traffic to queue up from Sheriffhall, with a twenty minute delay.

Traffic Scotland wrote on Twitter: "UPDATE 07.55 #A720 Lane 1 (of 2) closed W/B at Lasswade due to an RTC TRISS on scene Traffic is queuing from before Sheriffhall - approx 20 min #PlanAhead #DriveSafe @edintravel @SETrunkRoads."

Forth One radio added: "TRAVEL UPDATE: Edinburgh City Bypass, accident at Lasswade, right at the bridge.

"A lorry has shed its load and then there’s been an accident on its approach. Take care joining the back of the queues. Slow w/b from Gilmerton to Lasswade."

Police Scotland said: "We were called around 7am to a report of a four vehicle crash on the A702 Edinburgh city bypass between Lasswade and Gilmerton, westbound. Does not appear to be any injuries and vehicle recovery is underway."
