Edinburgh Christmas market is one of the cheapest in the UK for families

Edinburgh's Christmas market has taken the third spot as the best value for money Christmas day out in the UK, following a recent study from Vanarama.

The capital city's iconic Christmas event is set to make its grand return this year on November 20, where it will feature a wide range of festive attractions and stalls for visitors - including the return of the famous ice rink.

While we all love our annual trips to the Christmas Market during the Winter season, they are certainly quite an indulgent affair that can take a toll on the bank account, especially for those who have families.

This year's affair could be even more indulgent, as families and visitors want to be making up for last years festivities that were cancelled due to the pandemic.

That's why Vanarama decided to help families in the UK make the most out of the holiday season by finding out where in the UK you can have the best value for money Christmas day out.

Featuring five Christmas Markets from different cities in the UK, Edinburgh was the only Scottish city to make the list, with Blackpool Winter Gardens taking the top spot.

The prices were based on a standard family of two adults and two children, and took into account a whole variety of different factors that you end up paying for during your family trip.

The study took into account the entrance to winter wonderland, visiting Santa’s grotto, ice skating and car parking and found that Edinburgh's overall cost for a family of four would be just £66.

Edinburgh's Christmas Market has been a staple among locals and visitors for a while now, and it was also recently named the most popular festive market in the whole of the UK.

Hosted in the heart of the city, Edinburgh’s Christmas is a six week season of festivities that features plenty of activities for the family to enjoy. Those wishing to take little ones to meet Santa or to enjoy ice skating are sure to be happy with the prices on offer

Plus there are plenty more rides and attractions to choose from all around the city from the Christmas tree maze to fairground rides including bumper cars and a big wheel.

Need a break from the festivities? The City of Edinburgh offers many free attractions such as the Botanical Gardens to enjoy.

The study was based on a full day out and ranked the top 11 cities in the UK. (Vanarama)
