Edinburgh charity looking for winter school uniform donations as cost of living crisis continues

An Edinburgh based organisation are looking for donations as the winter months roll in, as families deal with the cost of living.

The Edinburgh School Uniform Bank (ESUB) distributes uniforms to those aged 4-18 living in hardship, who have been referred by schools, family support workers, and other professionals. They’re currently accepting donations from drop-off points, from an Amazon wishlist, or through donated funds.

Items required include hats, scarves, coats, trousers, skirts, leggings, jumpers and much more. You can find the full list here.

Julia said: “We are honoured to receive this recognition of the work of Edinburgh School Uniform Bank. Our team works so hard to give children the best chances in life and to make sure that everyone can go to school feeling comfortable, confident, and fitting in with their peers. We bring together the whole community to support families who are facing tough challenges, and our thanks go to everyone who contributes to this effort.”

If you’re donating nearly new items, they’re accepting plain uniform items in excellent condition and freshly cleaned. They would not accept uniforms with school logos that are unwashed, ripped or frayed.

Edinburgh School Uniform Bank are also suggesting a donation drive at local workplaces or schools, to gather the essentials needed.

Drop off locations include Kangaroo Storage in Bankhead, Lady Road Sainsbury’s in Cameron Toll, Poundland in Chesser, Waitrose in Comely Bank, Tesco in South Queensferry and more. The full list is available here.

On 15th December last year, Julia was named as a Point of Light by the Prime Minister, an award that recognises outstanding individual volunteers and people who are making a change in their community.

At the time, Julia said: “We are honoured to receive this recognition of the work of Edinburgh School Uniform Bank. Our team works so hard to give children the best chances in life and to make sure that everyone can go to school feeling comfortable, confident, and fitting in with their peers. We bring together the whole community to support families who are facing tough challenges, and our thanks go to everyone who contributes to this effort.”
