Edinburgh Castle seeks new neighbour as flat next door to landmark goes up for sale

Ever wanted to wake up to a view of a historic castle? Well, now you can after a unique flat has gone on the market in Edinburgh.

The historic one-bedroom flat is situated on the iconic Edinburgh Castle esplanade - and it's seeking a new owner.

The impressive property, on Castle Wynd North, has a stunning view of the castle from the bedroom - and it's on the market for £199,000.

It can be found at the base of the esplanade and overlooks the castle meaning, you'll pretty much be the nearest neighbour – ideal for fireworks displays and live concerts at the landmark.

Agents DJ Alexander say it's located on the first floor of an 1866 tenement "and is beautifully presented, having recently undergone a full refurbishment throughout".

The listing says the property comprises of a hallway accessed via a communal stair, a living room with sash and case window and a fitted kitchen with base and wall mounted units.

It also includes a spacious bedroom with "unrestricted views of the castle" and an original fireplace.

The shower room is fully tiled and fitted with a vanity sink, WC and shower enclosure. Outside there's a shared courtyard and permit parking.

DJ Alexander say: "Castle Wynd North is located between Johnston Terrace and Castlehill in the heart of Edinburgh’s historic Old Town, a unesco World Heritage site.

"Situated close to Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile, the Palace of Holyrood house, as well as the Scottish Parliament.

"The old buildings of the 16th and 17th centuries sit side by side with their Victorian and 20th century counterparts. Shop, museums, bars and eateries are situated in the immediate vicinity."

At offers over £199,000, the property is significantly cheaper than the average city centre home.

ESPC reveals the average price of property in the area is £326,324, however this is for homes of all sizes, not just one bed flats.

So far as one bed flats go the average price in the Polwarth, Shandon and Tollcross area is £199,369 while in Abbeyhill and Meadowbank it is £181,116.
