Haunted Edinburgh castle named one of the spookiest in the world terrifies guests into leaving

An opulent castle hotel on the outskirts of Edinburgh has made its name on its luxury offering and its top notch service.

However, as glamorous as Dalhousie Castle Hotel and Spa is, it also hides a dark past and is known as one of the world's most haunted castles.

Dating back to the 13th century, the venue is allegedly haunted by a number of ghosts.

Sir Alexander Ramsay of Clan Ramsay, who was starved to death at the castle in 1342 by a jealous friend, haunts the halls and grounds of the building.

It's said to be the ghost of Sir Alexander that terrifies an Australian reporter who got way more than she bargained for in the dungeon of the castle - you can see the YouTube footage here.

The most spooky of all is the ghost of the lovelorn Lady Catherine, who died of a broken heart at just 16 years old after being banished to the Midlothian castle tower in 1695 after being caught with a stable hand.

However, the teenager, known as the 'Grey Lady', appears at weddings, as can be seen in a picture from 2004, and is seen by the castle piper Andrew Sharp stalking the corridors and turrets.

Many people have thought she was staff with her grey dress with the puff sleeves, sharp features and tiny feet in little pointed shoes.

Others have reported seeing a woman in their rooms, waving from windows or merely sitting at the end of their beds.
