Edinburgh Castle gun salute organised to mark birthday of Prince Charles today

There will be a gun salute at Edinburgh Castle to mark Prince Charles' 71st birthday today (Thursday).

People can expect to hear the salute ringing around parts of the city at 12pm – so don't go thinking the one o'clock gun has gone off an hour early.

The Prince of Wales, who is the heir apparent to the British throne, was born in Buckingham Palace on 14 November, 1948.

Edinburgh Castle hold a number of gun salutes to mark different occasions and milestones throughout the year.

In June of this year a 21-gun salute took place to mark the 66th anniversary of the Queen's coronation.
