Heritage bosses have barred skateboarders from Edinburgh Castle’s esplanade after a scenic video showing youngsters riding around the landmark appeared online.
In a high-octane post on social media platform TikTok, young skateboarders can be seen traversing the streets of the Capital on their boards, taking in some of the city’s most recognisable locations.
The teenagers fly down the Royal Mile and find a wide open playground at the Castle's empty esplanade car park on a damp capital afternoon.
However, the youngsters are stopped from continuing on their tour of the city by a man in a high-vis jacket who orders them to move on from the world heritage site.
The video posted by skateboarding channel Skatebooobs, which has more than 28,000 followers, has since been viewed thousands of times and has attracted a host of positive comments.
But chiefs at Historic Environment Scotland (HES), who manage the site, have taken a dim view of the stunt and have now ordered riders to stay away on 'safety grounds'.
A HES spokesman told Edinburgh Live: “The safety of our visitors and staff is our top priority. As such, activities such as skateboarding are not permitted on the esplanade.
"This policy is in place to avoid accidents with visitors as well as service vehicles, such as delivery and bin lorries that are present early in the morning.”
