Edinburgh Castle came in fifth of the most haunted castles in the UK shortly followed by Eilean Donan Castle and Dunnottar.
The grand fortress has been occupied by people since the Iron Ages and has had eras of gruesome history.
Many of the spooky stories linked to Edinburgh Castle are related to the network of tunnels that go under the royal mile.
One of the most famous ghost stories from the castle originates in the network of tunnels that were used as an escape route.
When the tunnels were rediscovered, nobody knew where they led to so a little drummer boy was sent down the tunnels to play his drum that would be heard from the cobbled streets above.
The further he went, the further the tunnels seemed to go, leading right down the Royal Mile.
Suddenly the drumming stopped and the little drummer boy was never found or heard from again.
The tunnel was resealed and if you happen to be walking down Castle Hill on a dark and quiet night you might hear the tapping from the drummer boy's ghost as he parades the tunnels below.
The castle is the United Kingdom's second most-visited paid tourist attraction, with over 2.2 million visitors a year.
Fresh Student Living conducted the research with Halloween coming up and also found that 70% of haunted castles in the UK were in Scotland.
