Edinburgh care home could become huge new development with 140 affordable homes

A new housing development could see 140 affordable homes built at the site of a former care home.

Edinburgh councillors confirmed Hart Builders, part of the Cruden group, have been appointed to bid on the development at Muirhouse Parkway in north Edinburgh.

The scheme would be built at the site of the former Silverlea care home, with design activities are already underway.

Posting on their joint Facebook page, councillors Louise Young and Kevin Lang announced the news.

They wrote: "Council officials have confirmed to us that Hart Builders have been appointed as the preferred bidder for the new affordable housing development on the former Silverlea care home site at the north side of Muirhouse Parkway.

"The approximately 140 new homes will be 100 per cent affordable housing.

"Hart and its design team will begin more design work in early November. Over the coming months, a range of design activities will take place including further site investigations, and also consultation with the local community on designs for the site.
