Edinburgh cafe left boss devastated after thugs torch front door in deliberate attack

An Edinburgh cafe boss has been left devastated after thugs torched the front door of her premises.

Emergency services rushed to BRUNCH-field on Viewforth Gardens in the city following a report of a blaze at the popular eatery at around 12.50am on Saturday.

Fire crews attended and extinguished the flames before they spread throughout the whole building.

But the fire badly damaged the front of the recently refurbished property and the cafe will no longer be able to reopen next month as planned.

The gutted BRUNCH-field boss took to social media to explain her dismay saying: "I can’t believe I am having to write this.

"Last night around 1am someone has tried to burn our newly refurbished shop down.

"We had planned to reopen on April 5th to show you all our new look, unfortunately this will now not be the case.

"Our first year has been so difficult with Covid and for someone to have done this we are absolutely devastated."

Police say they believe the fire was started deliberately and their enquiries remain ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were called to a property on Viewforth Gardens, Edinburgh, at around 12.50am on Saturday, March 20, following a fire.

“The fire was extinguished and there were no reported injuries. It is believed to have been started deliberately and enquiries remain ongoing.”
