Edinburgh cafe launch savoury doughnuts filled with bacon and brown sauce

You can keep your morning rolls, as one Edinburgh cafe has begun stuffing fried breakfast items into savoury doughnuts instead.

Yes really - vegan shop Considerit in Newington have announced that alongside their usual award-winning sweet doughnuts, on Saturday and Sunday mornings they will be dishing out their new breakfast options.

Instead of your usual jam or custard fillings, you can have a doughnut packed full of bacon or sausage (or both) with either ketchup, brown sauce or onion chutney.

The Edinburgh plant-based store recently scooped the award for the "best vegan doughnuts" in the UK.

The family businesses, run by father and daughter duo Barry and Claire Baker, won PETA’s 2020 Vegan Food Award for best vegan doughnuts.

Opening their chocolate, doughnut and ice cream emporium opposite Summerhall in 2017, Considerit has become a foodie favourite in the capital.

Announcing their new savoury invention on Instagram, Considerit wrote: "The long awaited return of the savoury doughnut is no more! They’re going to be available again on Saturdays & Sundays to start off with (starting tomorrow), there are limited numbers of these delicious doughnuts so make sure you get down quick to snag one up.

"Filling options are; bacon, sausage or a mixture of both. Sauce options are; ketchup, brown sauce or onion chutney.

"Just the smell of these doughnuts is life giving enough, wait till you taste them!"
