Edinburgh bypass sees huge delays after breakdown on the A720 causes chaos

Edinburgh drivers have been warned to expect delays after an incident on the City Bypass on Monday (August 16).

Recent information has confirmed that a breakdown on the A720 is causing significant tailbacks along the dual carriageway heading Eastbound.

The vehicle is said to be located on lane one of four on the approach to Sherriffhall Roundabout, with the lane now restricted to motorists.

Traffic Scotland advised drivers heading towards the Gilmerton Junction and Sherriffhall to "approach with caution", as traffic moves slowly throughout the stretch.

Images from live traffic cameras in the area have already shown large tailbacks and stationary traffic on approach, with delays expected to continue throughout lunchtime.

Those who can take an alternative route have been advised to do so.

Elsewhere in Edinburgh, tailbacks are also being reported at the Kirkliston crossroads due to urgent water main repairs being carried out in the area.

A four-way temporary traffic light system is in place, with Main Street and Station Road said to be particularly slow.

Edinburgh Live will update this story with any further information as it happens.
