Edinburgh bypass crash: Chaos on A720 as early morning collision causes hour-long delays

Edinburgh drivers are facing almost hour-long delays after a serious crash on the city bypass caused chaos.

Traffic Scotland have issued a warning to motorists in the capital to avoid the A720 after a crash occurred heading westbound just before 7am.

Police have remained on the scene after the incident took place at Straiton.

The incident immediately caused heavy traffic heading westbound, with one lane initially being restricted. However, the first lane has now been closed for over an hour, causing significant delays.

Emergency services had reached to the scene, with TRISS also reported to be at Straiton by around 8.15am.

With a clear-up operation now underway, the lane has remained closed, with traffic queuing all the way back to Sheriffhall.

Traffic Scotland have advised that the tailbacks are causing delays of around 50 minutes, with LIVE cameras showing nose to tail traffic for miles heading west.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of a crash involving one car on the A720 at the Straiton Junction, around 6.40am on Wednesday, 22 December, 2021.

“There were no reports of any injuries and recovery is being arranged."
