1. Man beat ex-partner after she joined a dating app

A drunk man battered his ex-partner and pulled out a clump of her hair following their split because she joined a dating app, a court heard.

John Turner struck his former lover’s head more than ten times during a booze session with her and a pal at his Edinburgh home.

The city’s sheriff court was told the couple had earlier broken up after Turner learning she was online dating and seeing other people.

2. Railway line shut down after person struck by train

ScotRail has been forced to divert its busiest train service to Edinburgh this morning after a person was struck by a train on the line between Lenzie and Bishopbriggs.

Services between Edinburgh Waverley and Glasgow Queen Street are being diverted via Cumbernauld due to emergency services attending an incident on a different line.

Emergency services are currently attendance on the line between Lenzie and Bishopbriggs, as a person has been struck by a train.

3. Deputy First Minister to hold Covid briefing today

Deputy First Minister John Swinney is set to give an update to Holyrood this afternoon as concerns arise amidst the coronavirus pandemic still having a hold on Scotland.

Mr Swinney, who is also Covid Recovery Minister for Scotland, will address Parliament at approximately 2:20pm today, and the main focus of his speech is likely to be the surge of positive Covid cases across the country recently.

This update is set to come as residents of Edinburgh were urged to get their children vaccinated, as data shows that over 70 kids were hospitalised with the virus most recently.

4. Two drivers hospitalised following collision at Queensferry

Two people have been hospitalised following a crash which locked down a major Edinburgh road for several hours.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene at Queensferry Road shortly after 10:05am on Monday morning amid a series of calls regarding a collision between at least two vehicles.

Images from the scene showed a grey Citroen and blue Volkswagen involved in the incident, which attracted a huge response from ambulance and police crews.

5. Hogmanay details revealed

Edinburgh’s Hogmanay headliner has been revealed today, electronic music duo Basement Jaxx will take the top spot alongside Scottish DJ and presenter, Arielle Free.
