Edinburgh boy watches in horror as man steals his bike in front of his eyes

An Edinburgh mum has spoken of her disbelief after her son witnessed a brazen bike thief nab his beloved bicycle right in front of his eyes.

Chelsea Cameron, 30, from Gorgie, had said that her son, Corrie Cameron, 10, was playing in a friend's garden by the Murrayfield bar and had left his bike by the gate.

As he played on the trampoline with a friend he saw a man, who appeared to be around 20, with blonde hair, in a blue tracksuit and wearing a mask take his bike.

Corrie reacted in horror and challenged the man who said he was not going to steal it but the thief took off on the personalised Nike bike, leaving the young boy distraught.

The bike is understood to be a limited edition Nike and has a blue camo design on the wheels with a white frame.

Chelsea said: “I received a call from Corrie right after it happened. He got the bike for his birthday in January and we had to preorder it as it is a limited edition Nike bike.

“A guy came running up to the gate and grabbed the bike and cycled away. Corrie was watching him and tried to tell him that it was his bike but the man replied that he wasn't going to steal it and then just cycled away.

“We have heard from a few people that the man who stole the bike was spotted on the bicycle as he argued with a young lady pushing a pram in Gorgie late last night. We have a really big family so everyone is out there at the moment trying to find it for Corrie.

“It makes me sick. Who steals a limited edition Nike bike from a child in broad daylight?”

The family has asked that if anyone has any details to contact them.
