Edinburgh-bound plane declares 'onboard emergency' during flight

A PASSENGER flight declared a mid-air emergency at it was approaching Edinburgh.

The Turkish Airlines flight TK1345 from Istanbul landed in the capital shortly before 4pm on Friday after calling a general emergency on board.

The emergency, first reported by Edinburgh Live, was declared during the plane's descent into Edinburgh, above Midlothian, flight tracking data shows.

Turkish Aviation site HavaSosyalMedya also shared the incident on Twitter/X, saying that the plane had issued a 7700 emergency code, although the reason behind the code was not given.

According to the site, the 7700 code signifies an "abnormal situation has occurred", but it does not provide any information about the nature or the severity of the issue on board.

Turkish Airlines has been contacted for comment.
