Edinburgh bomb disposal swoop on sleepy city street as suspect device found in house clearance

A bomb disposal unit is currently in attendance at a property in a sleepy Edinburgh cul-de-sac.

Emergency services cordoned off part of Blackford Bank in the city on Saturday morning after an item of concern was found.

It is understood that an object was found during a house clearance, and specialist officers were called in immediately.

Residents are not believed to have been evacuated, but a section of the street appears to have been closed off.

One onlooker told Edinburgh Live: "An older lady lived in the house and recently moved out. While they were clearing out the house they found something, but I'm not sure what yet."

Police Scotland say the item was found in a shed and has since been safely removed.

A spokesperson said: "We were made aware of unexploded ordnance found in a shed on Blackford Bank, Edinburgh, around 9.45am on Saturday, 5 June. EOD attended and the item has now been safely removed. The area was cordoned off briefly as a precaution."
